Dippod - AI-Native Flashcard Generation and Spaced Repetition App

Dippod is now officially released! This is an app that generates and collects flashcards for you, with built-in spaced repetition features to help you memorize and learn more efficiently. You can think of it as an AI version of Anki and Quizlet, allowing you to skip the painful and time-consuming process of making flashcards and focus your time and energy on learning itself.

Why did I want to make this app?

I am interested in many topics, but contradictorily, my memory is very poor. So, I often encounter a term many times, learn about it countless times, but still have no impression of what it actually means. Or sometimes I have a moment of inspiration and suddenly feel that something might be useful in the future—for example, the name of a niche plant with a special meaning might be a good name for one of my future products, or conversely, maybe I could build a product around the meaning of this thing.

For these various reasons, I started slowly using some note-taking products, like Spark Memos and Apple's native Notes. In the process, I would simply record some concepts or terms I learned into these apps for later review. But the problem is that the friction in this process is relatively high. For example, after learning a concept, I not only have to record the concept itself but also its meaning. Although this process can deepen my memory of these concepts, as a lazy person, thinking about such a complex process waiting for me makes me want to give up immediately.

Also, when using these note-taking apps, it is not so convenient to review what I have recorded later. Because everything is mixed together, except for being classified into some large fields. Inside the categories, there is no way to achieve fine-grained control over different items. I can only scan through them completely, skipping the content I am already familiar with and focusing on reviewing the parts I have forgotten.

Later, I accidentally learned about products that combine flashcards and spaced repetition, such as Anki and Quizlet. The review method of these products fits my habits better: increase the frequency of review for cards that are forgotten quickly, and push back the review schedule for those remembered well, focusing only on the content that needs to be memorized. But in products like Anki, creating flashcards is a complicated and long process, which is why I haven't used them much.

Until the recent popularity of AI, seeing AI's omniscience in the field of knowledge (although AI occasionally hallucinates, the progress in the last two years is visible to the naked eye, and human hallucination levels are not lower than AI), I saw the possibility that this process could be greatly simplified, so I made Dippod. Use AI to handle the process of generating and collecting flashcards, and then use spaced repetition to gradually imprint this content into your mind.

What is the use of Dippod?

As an app that mainly uses the concepts of flashcards and spaced repetition, Dippod is most suitable for learning in fields with many concepts and terms, such as medicine, language learning, etc., which are also the most common uses of veteran products like Anki.

The main way to use Dippod is to define Pods (which can be understood as flashcard containers) according to specific purposes. This Pod defines how subsequent input is converted into the content of one or some Beans (single flashcards). For example, enter the prompt "Explain English words and give example sentences" in a Pod, and subsequently entering an English word directly in the Pod will generate a flashcard with the word as the front and the word explanation and example sentences as the answer. Because the content of the flashcard is generated using AI, and AI's capabilities are far more than just word lookup. For example, also for learning English, you can create a daily English correction Pod, enter "Correct the English paragraph I entered, and point out my mistakes and points to note" in the Pod's prompt, and then enter a paragraph of English in this Pod every day, letting AI help you correct it and give tips! And the content Dippod can handle is not limited to text. You can send images/documents to a Pod. For example, let Dippod describe the scene in front of you in Japanese, let Dippod identify the items in front of you, let Dippod split a complete exam paper into individual flashcards for review at any time, and so on.

Of course, you might be struggling with how to write the prompt for the Pod. Dippod has already thought of this for you. So in quick mode, you only need to describe what you want to learn in one sentence, and Dippod will ask a few short questions and then help you create a Pod and some initial Beans. When you encounter more concepts in this field later, you can manually add content to this Pod.

Although language learning was used as an example above, Dippod's use is certainly far more than language learning. Any content that can be processed by AI before learning and reviewing can find a different way of learning in Dippod. For example, if you want to understand what behavioral economics is, how existentialism solves the dilemma of contemporary people, common trading strategies, etc., there are no problems at all.

If you encounter knowledge points that you want to understand further, you can also open Dippod Sage at any time for a deeper chat. Dippod Sage already knows the topic and content you want to understand in advance, so you don't need to describe it again. Or if you just want to collect knowledge points without needing a daily reminder to review, you can also turn off the learning function of the Pod and let the Pod serve merely as a knowledge point container.

How to start using Dippod?
